Europe and Africa are in business!

As director of ceremonies, also referred to as, chief moderator and MC, Tania Habimana was tasked with an important job.

Business leaders, investors, innovative start-ups and young and women entrepreneurs from Africa and Europe are meeting at the 6th EU-Africa Business Forum taking place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on 27 November 2017.

High-level political participation at the Forum began with representation from heads of states, H.E. Alpha Conde, H.E. Alassane Outtara, and H.E Andrus Ansip amongst others. Habimana was elected to act as chief director of ceremonies alongside Ibrahima Cheick Diong, the selection of Habimana for such a role underlined the EU & AU’s commitment to including youth voices within key discussions concerning the future of the continent.

Standing poised to benefit from this improved business environment is a young generation of entrepreneurs that holds the future of Africa and Europe in its hands. By 2050, the African continent’s youth population is expected to double, but for the estimated 10-12 million people entering the workforce each year, only 3 million formal jobs are created. Along with the agricultural sector, the digital sector will make one of the greatest contributions to job creation in Africa.

Habimana led the opening ceremony, moderated the session on “Youth and Women: A Driving Force to Deliver Inclusive Growth”, led the closed-event signing of the agreement between AU member states (closed event), and concluded the forum by presenting the awards for Business Africa Awards, Stars in Africa Awards, and the Start-up Europe Comes to Africa Awards – these awards were presented together with H.E. Andrus Ansip, president of the EU Commission.
